Here's to You

Happy New Year everyone!

After a long food and family filled holiday season I'm ready to sit down and get to work. My new years resolution consists of a colourful and sparkly S/S collection and hopefully some new exciting stockists as well as several other new business ventures that I'll be keeping hush hush for now ;)

Also, keep an eye out for my new Ad and upcoming write-up on Pure-lovers.blogspot.com

More Girls Girls Girls

I just keep collecting girlie pics, so I'm going to keep showing them to you. This edition, in honour of my most recent collection inspiration, is a collection of a few of my 90s heroins.

This is how we do it

Well I won't speak for everyone, but this is how I do it. I've run myself completely ragged since September with no end in sight. In retail the holiday season starts pretty much in August, and in jewelry it continues through till Valentines Day. Then maybe I'll have a day or two off before I need to start producing and market the S/S collection. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, I wouldn't trade it for a thing in the world, but this picture pretty much sums it up. Including the fact that I somehow keep finding the time to go out and get a little silly on weekends. Lets be honest though, after a tough week at work dont we all want to throw on some sequins, kick up our heels, and wind down with some adult beverages?

OMG!

SO busy! I should probably be posting about all the super exciting Dolorous things that have been keeping me so busy, like working on the new collection, getting tons of crazy new materials (the likes of which you've never seen in my shop before . . .), doing an awesome styling shoot with my very good friend and current roommate Sacha (she leaked a sneak peek on her blog here) AND getting a new ad on a great blog coming soon . . . but I'm not.

No, I don't really want to talk about that right now because I'd rather talk about how I'm so excited that its fall and I get to get back into all of my favourite snuggly sweaters and awesome boots, and how in honour of my favourite season I went out and bought a whole bunch of new favourite boots and sweaters! YAY! I'm not really one to take pictures of my own stuff, or of me in outfits but I will say that I bought two pairs rad Dolce Vita boots, including some killer black platform wedge booties and some awesome vintage sweaters including the most amazing mustard coloured sweater I've ever seen in my life. Thank you fall :)

So Refreshing

This is exactly how I want to spend my summer months, drinking fruity beverages and lounging in pools (with said beverages). Can you think of anything better? Living in this icy tundra called Canada its nice to take full advantage of the little sun we get!

A small thank you

Jewellery is an inherently intimate item and so selling jewellery, especially since the pieces are both designed and made by me, I tend to get fairly involved in each transaction. In my short time selling my jewellery online I've had so many sales accompanied by such personal stories and honestly its always really nice when I get to find out the kind of person my pieces are going to, and occasionally even finding out what they're wearing it with! Knowing that so many pieces have been given as gifts by friends, family, boyfriends, and finaces, in one instance a necklace even being a bride's wedding jewellery (and inspiration for her dress!)! Its just so rewarding getting to know my little creations are being given such loving homes. This is just a little thank you to all of my much appreciated customers.

Summer Lovin

Sometimes you see someone and just know they have it all figured out.
These ladies obviously have their priorities in check. Great accessories, a good friend, and a nice fat cigar is really all you need. Seems like a good way to spend a hot day to me!

Girls Girls Girls

Madame Alix Gres 1939

So I recently bought a large batch of new supplies! YAY! Part of looking forward to spring for me is considering new additions to the line, and I've decided that some new supplies are just what I need to get my creative juices flowing. With this on my mind, I've also spent a lot of time considering my different inspirations and the one thing that it always comes back to is the female figure. Its so important to me to make a piece of jewelry that wears and moves well, as well as looking fantastic, and a big part of making a piece of jewelry hug the body well is considering the body its supposed to be hugging. The female form, in every shape and size, is something to be appreciated. One of the most rewarding things about making jewelry is seeing someone wearing one of my pieces and making it all their own, cohesive with their unique style. When designing I like to keep conscious of all types of shapes and styles by frequently leafing through my every growing collection of what can only be deemed 'girly pics'. Here are a few for your viewing pleasure.

Love is in the Air

And as I always say, the idea that V-Day is only for lovers is for suckers.
Take a note from these cuties!

Jealous? I am! That looks like a great hug.

So, I'm completely smitten. What started as an innocent experiment during some free time quickly grew into passionate love. It was love at first sight. I haven't named him yet (I'm considering Bonco), but I know I want him on me at all times, for a long time. And I hope to make more soon! Incase you're confused, I'm talking about this adorable little brass Brontosaurus I made at school the other day.

Inspired by something I doodled in a notebook, I sawed him out of some scrap brass on a whim, and as soon as I laid eyes on the finished piece, it was LOVE! In fact, I love him so much that I plan to do a million different things with this prototype. I'm currently in the process of casting it in silver, and also plan to saw out a few more from sheet metal. Ideally, I'd like to wear multiple Brotosaurus on pins, earrings, rings, I want them everywhere.

If only

I was recently reading an article on snowflakes (my homepage is set to National Geographic because I can kind of be a science geek) and it sparked up a bit of crystal frenzy deep inside me.
Individual snowflakes are actually called snow crystals, and their formation, though much quicker and more climate sensitive, is not unlike the formation of other crystals. Unfortunately like many beautiful crystals, they're far too delicate to be worn, which got me thinking about the pletherra of enchanting crystals that are nearly impossible to make into anything wearable. Not that that will stop me from trying to figure a way around it.

All this looking at unconventional crystals has left me wanting to go shopping for some new supplies! Expect lots of new crystal work for this coming spring collection

Cold as Ice

Seems to me like the perfect weather to curl up with a steamy drink and a good book. Personally, I'm thinking a Hot Toddy and anything by David Sedaris. Nothing like some whiskey and a good laugh to warm up!
